Our Pastor led by the vow renewal ceremony after we watched a precious movie called "A Vow to Cherish," where a family experiences a tragedy that will either confirm their love for one another or tear the family apart. No one knew that our Pastor had planned this special surprise for us as a congregation, and it was certainly an event I will always remember. We even had certificates that we signed with witnesses to acknowledge that evening's monumental event.
Do we take marriage seriously in our society today? Nearly HALF of all marriages end in divorce. It has been my experience as I have prayed with broken hearted friends over the years who were considering divorce, that it is tempting women and men alike to think that the "grass is greener on the other side." My grandma once said "be careful of green grass....that usually just means more MANURE!" Grandma is a WISE woman! :)
Though we refer to "wedding vows," often in our culture in actuality it is a "covenant" that we entered into as husband and wife. According to Scriptures, a covenant is a solemn and binding relationship which is meant to last a lifetime. I am so grateful that our Lord in Heaven keeps his covenants with us...we are so undeserving yet He forgives us again and again.
Let's be quicker to forgive a wrong-doing
slower to anger over a trivial matter
eager to find praise instead of fault
grateful to be forgiven.
